Lexus 'Art Is Motion' Paints Your Face Depending On How You Drive

'You are how you drive'. We don't know who said that or even if anyone said that at all. But this seems to be the concept behind a new project, ‘Art Is Motion' in association with Lexus. The project centers around a Lexus IS300H which been given the ability to paint a portrait of the driver depending on how he or she is driving.

This is not the work of some artificial intelligent, but a clever software that's been developed by ‘Generative artist' Sergio Albiac. We did not know what generative art meant. So a quick Wiki search told us that any art created by an autonomous system is generative art.

That description perfectly defines the system in place inside this particular Lexus IS300H. First, the driver's photograph is fed into the system. Next, the sensors in the vehicle pick up information such as how fast you are driving, how hard the engine is being revved and whether the car is running on petrol or electric power.

These factors then influence the system and determine how your portrait comes along. The portrait is a constantly evolving one. The brush strokes, the colours and the intensity of the strokes keep varying with even the most minute change made by you while driving.

When the driving is smooth and calm the colours are soft and brush strokes precise. When the driving becomes chaotic the brush strokes take on a more violent pace and the colours become bolder.

You can watch the video below to gain a better understanding of how it works. As for the Lexus IS300H, it is a one-off and will be auctioned off and there is no intention of making it mainstream.
