Lane Splitting: How Not To Do It
Lane splitting. This is the term used for motorcycles overtaking vehicles by moving between lanes and travelling between vehicles. Yes, there is a term for it and two wheeler riders in India do it on a regular basis.
In fact, lane splitting is not even considered a thing to be considered an issue here. However, that's not the case in western countries, where this has been argued extensively.

While pro lane splitting speakers argue about the merits, which includes decongesting roads by allowing smaller vehicles to pass through, those against it consider it unsafe, for fairly obvious reasons.
Our take on it is, done correctly, lane splitting can be beneficial, both for two wheelers and four wheelers. This means overtaking while cars are stationary at a signal or moving slowly. Even then, this ought to be done carefully to avoid damaging the vehicles on either side.
At the same time, there is a completely wrong way of lane splitting that should not be done at any cost, which is aptly demonstrated in our Facebook video of the day.
