Images of a KTM RC 390 hanging inside a transformer cage have gone viral over the past few days. A look at the CCTV footage reveals what exactly happened on the streets that left the KTM RC 390 dangling like a Christmas ornament.
The images were taken near the village of Vellayamkudy, in the Idduki district of Kerala and show a KTM RC 390 motorcycle dangling in the air with its nose facing the ground in a transformer cage. So what exactly happened here, how did a motorcycle end up dangling like an ornament off a Christmas tree inside a cage for a transformer. The answer isn't really surprising.
Footage from a CCTV camera that appears to be positioned diagonally opposite the transformer reveals the story of the dangling KTM. The footage shows the KTM RC 390 sliding into view as other bikes zip past. The rider, who appears to have been speeding has already lost control of the bike at the this point with the rear section of the bike already swinging forward.
As the bike nears the transformer cage, it pushes off its rider and the flips over into the transformer cage. The rider of the motorcycle, who wasn't wearing a helmet slides further down the road before coming to a halt. The rider, despite not having any safety gear on was unhurt and was soon surrounded by people rushing in to help him.
The KTM RC 390 on the other hand, hits one of the poles holding up the transformer and then the cage before getting caught up in the cables that emanate from the electrical device.
More videos shot a bit later show the authorities arriving on the scene with a JCB earthmover. The bike was roped up to the backhoe of the JCB and then safely pulled out from the transformer cage and then placed in a nearby field which shows the extend of the damage suffered by the KTM RC 390 in the crash. The front wheel is totally wrecked and the front suspension setup also seems to be a total writeoff.
Looking at the damage suffered by the KTM RC 390 in this incident from Kerala, the rider is quite lucky to be alive. He was also quite lucky that nothing else happened when the bike crashed into the transformer. If the bike had hit the transformer itself, the resulting accident could have been very dangerous for everyone in the vicinity.
Thoughts On The KTM Crash In Kerala
The incident with the KTM in Kerala is another case of overzealous riders loosing control of their bikes when trying to go beyond their limits. The rider is very lucky he didn't become a poster child for those signs on the highways which state, 'Speed Thrills But Kills'.
