Kerala Gets India First Seaplane Tourist Service
On Sunday Kerala became the first Indian state to offer seaplane service targeted at tourists. The service was inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, along with Union Minister of state for Civil Aviation K.C. Venugopal, state Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar and Peethambara Kurup, MP.
Kerala, with its extensive network of backwaters, is perfect place for seaplane services. Not only will it provide visitors a bird's eye view of ‘God's Own Country', but will also reduce travel time significantly by providing direct access to scenic backwaters in the state.

Service will initially be provided between service Ashtamudi Lake and Punnamada in Alappuzha.

Inagural flight

Inagural flight was reduced to a take off and flyback ue to bad weather.

Local fishermen protested the service citing it would be threat to their livelihood and the ecology.

Captained by Michael Fabry from Belgian, the flight lasted just a short while and carried no passengers due to poor weather. The flight was witnessed by hundreds.
