Jetson ONE Flying Electric Car Sold Out - Deliveries To Commence Later This Year
If you open a Time Capsule from the 1960s, almost all time capsules will have some predictions related to flying cars or personal flying devices in the first and second decades of the 21st century. However, in reality, we are still debating about electric powertrains over IC powertrains.
Moreover, over the years many Hollywood movies have inspired and sometimes spawned numerous concepts regarding flying cars. Thanks to these inspirations, numerous start-up companies around the globe are working on flying cars.
One such company is now closer than any other company to successfully making and selling flying cars. However, this company is not a major corporate company, but a Tuscany-based startup named 'Jetson Aero'.
Though there are many established aircraft companies such as Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, and Honda working on similar "flying cars" concept, it looks like the dream of owning or using flying cars has come to reality with the Jetson ONE.
The Jetson One is classified as a compact eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft. This means the Jetson One uses electric power to hover, take-off, and land vertically. Last year, the Tuscany-based startup company launched the Jetson ONE and almost every single unit planned for production got sold out.
Now, the Tuscany-based startup company, Jetson Aero is gearing up to deliver these all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
Considering the demand and response for the Jetson ONE eVTOL, it is not that surprising considering the model is priced at around $92,000 (Rs 72.77 lakh). To put that into perspective, a Jetson One eVTOL is priced less than a Tesla Model S (Dual Motor AWD).
Speaking about the Jetson ONE, the eVTOL (flying car) features a roll-caged cockpit with plenty of carbon fibre bits to keep the weight as low as possible. In addition to that, the Jetson ONE is powered by 8 electric motors that drive an equal number of propellers.
Thanks to its design and onboard tech, the Jetson ONE eVTOL can fly sustainably even with the loss of an electric motor, claims the automaker. Apart from that, the Jetson ONE can sustain a flight time of 20 minutes (32km) with a topspeed of 102km/h and also fly as high as 1,500 feet.
In addition to all this, the Jetson ONE eVTOL weighs just 86.18kg and it is manufactured under FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations. As a result, Jetson ONEowners do not require a pilot's license to fly the eVTOL.
It is also worth mentioning that the Jetson ONE comes packed with a highly-automated software system that makes the eVTOL easy to fly even for a first-time user.
Ahead of the deliveries of the Jetson ONE eVTOL, Jetson Aero has opened a new research and development hub in Arezzo, Tuscany. This new research and development facility also features an 800-metre long airstrip as well.
Thoughts About The Jetson ONE Flying Car
As the Jetson Aero gears up for the deliveries of the Jetson ONE eVTOL, humankind is closer than ever to owning flying cars. That being said, the Jetson ONE is neither a fixed-wing aeroplane nor a helicopter and the model is very hard to be categorised. As a result, the Jetson ONE sits in the grey area in terms of applicable rules and regulations.
