Jay Leno's 1930 Bentley GJ 400 Is A Behemoth
Former TV presenter Jay Leno's Garage is an astounding place to be in for any auto enthusiast. Thanks to the power of the internet and YouTube, a lot of us from around the world get the opportunity to experience the treasures within, at least virtually.
One such unique piece of four-wheeled machine from his garage is a 1930 Bentley GJ 400 which he recently featured. This is a Bently of great size, as you will see and powering this giant is a behemoth. A 27-litre Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine from an airplane to be exact.
This is the same engine which powered World War II planes such as the Spitfires and Hurricane and even the American P-51 Mustang.
Interestingly, this Bentley is not a vintage model, but rather a modified one that's been brought up to age, without altering its classic looks. Most changes are underneath or have been disguised to look vintage.
The engine has been refined and is now fitted with an electronic fuel injector. There's also an automatic gearbox that turns the rear wheels. Jay Leno says the engine produces as much as 750 horsepower, but believes it could be coaxed to produce over 1000 HP with some modifications.
