Citizen Faces Mayor's Wrath For Mending Potholes
Pothole Patchman is the self appointed name of a ‘superhero' whose powers include good intention and the ability to fill 100 potholes. The real name of this superhero, who people also refer to as ‘Robin Hood of potholes', is Ron Chane and he is just another citizen of Jackson, Mississippi from the U.S.
Ron is like any other frustrated citizen who is tormented by the numerous potholes, which make driving hell. Unlike the rest of us, however, when the local municipality failed to fulfill its responsibility he took it upon himself to mend them. His goal was 100 potholes, which he accomplished in just 5 days.
Ron Chane, who runs his Studio Chane Screenprinting business by day, occasionally turns vigilante by night. Taking civic work into his own hands he gets the asphalt required for repair work from "a large mound of road-building mater" that he refers to as Mount St. Asphalt. Once a pothole is filled he leaves his mark by spray painting the words "Citizen Fixed".
While the people appreciate what he has been doing, the municipality does not approve of it and has termed it illegal. While Ron says he is only "putting the asphalt back where it belongs", Mayor Chokwe Lumumba put out an official statement which stated "We applaud anyone who commits to making reasonable improvements within their communities, but we do not accept any use of the city's resources without going through the proper legal channels."
Ron may be taking the resources without permission, but he is certainly not misusing it and moreover, he is doing what in the first place, should have been done by the local authorities. Hopefully, the work is done by the people who are supposed to do it because Ron certainly does not "want to do the city's work forever."
