Landmark Deal: Indian Railways To Export 200 Passenger Coaches To Bangladesh
Indian Railways' export arm, RITES, has secured a new order to supply 200 passenger coaches to Bangladesh. This marks a significant achievement for Indian Railways in the international export market.
Indian Railways has been continuously expanding its manufacturing capabilities to meet international standards. To facilitate exports, it established RITES, which has been actively engaging in business discussions with various countries.

To cater to the growing demand for passenger trains in Bangladesh, the country issued a global tender for 200 passenger coaches. Indian Railways emerged victorious and has been awarded the contract to manufacture these coaches.
The order comprises 106 AC coaches and 94 non-AC coaches, all of which will be manufactured at the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala, Punjab. The total value of the contract is 111.26 million USD, which translates to approximately Rs 915 crore.
The financing for this project will be provided by the European Investment Bank. Along with the coaches, Indian Railways will also provide design expertise, spare parts support, and training to Bangladesh. The delivery timeline is set at 36 months from the order date.

Additionally, Indian Railways has agreed to offer a 24-month warranty on the coaches. It is also worth mentioning that a formal agreement has been signed between Indian Railways and the Bangladesh government.
Make In India Initiative
This project falls under the Make in India initiative, showcasing India's capability to manufacture world-class railway coaches. Notably, this is not the first time India is supplying coaches to Bangladesh. Previously, 120 broad-gauge passenger coaches, 36 broad-gauge locomotives, and 10-meter-gauge locomotives have already been delivered.
A significant number of trains operating in Bangladesh are of Indian origin. India's ability to manufacture cost-effective trains tailored to Bangladesh's specific needs has been a key factor in securing these orders.

Growth Of Indian Railway Network
The Indian railway network is witnessing substantial growth, particularly with the development of the Vande Bharat Express, demonstrating its capability to produce trains that meet international standards. Being home to one of the world's largest railway networks, India is continuously striving to excel in this field.
DriveSpark Thinks
