Vande Metro: A Leap Forward In Short-Distance Intercity Travel
Indian Railways will soon introduce the Vande Metro, a new train designed for short-distance intercity travel. Inspired by the Vande Bharat Express, the Vande Metro aims to improve train travel over shorter distances. Here are the main points:
Vande Metro Launch Date Announced
The Vande Metro was first announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in February 2023. Two prototypes are being built at RCF Kapurthala and ICF Chennai. These prototypes will be completed and tested in the coming months.
Vande Metro versus Vande Bharat: A Comparison
Similar to the Vande Bharat Express, the Vande Metro is a self-propelled train that doesn't need a locomotive. It is intended to replace the Mainline EMU trains, offering faster and more comfortable travel options.
Speed and Features
The Vande Metro will use advanced acceleration and deceleration technology to reach a top speed of 130 kmph. This speed is higher than that of the current Mainline EMUs. The trains will be fully air-conditioned, with sealed gangways for easy movement between coaches and a dust-free environment.

Passenger Amenities
Vande Metro trains will come with lightweight aluminium luggage racks and Passenger Information Systems equipped with LCD displays. The aim is to provide a premium short-distance travel experience. Other features include automatic doors, mobile charging sockets, and diffused lighting.
Interior Design
Contemporary designed lightweight cushioned seats will be installed in the Vande Metro. Each coach will have a lightweight car body, accommodating 100 seated passengers and standing room for 200 more.

Safety Features
Safety measures in Vande Metro coaches include CCTV cameras, emergency talk-back units, and modular toilets with a vacuum evacuation system. Additionally, the coaches will have automatic fire detection and alarm systems.
Expected Routes
According to a TOI report, Vande Metro trains are likely to operate on routes such as Agra-Mathura, Delhi-Rewari, Lucknow-Kanpur, Tirupati-Chennai, and Bhubaneswar-Balasore. The number of coaches will be either 12 or 16, based on route demand.

DriveSpark Thinks
The Vande Metro is set to revolutionize short-distance intercity travel in India with faster speeds, better passenger amenities, and modern features, offering a more comfortable and convenient travel experience than current Mainline EMUs.
Exciting trial runs and possible routes like Agra-Mathura and Delhi-Rewari offer travelers the prospect of a quicker and more pleasant journey between nearby cities.
