Kavach System: Indian Railways Game-Changer For Passenger Safety

However, the validation of such a system necessitates thorough testing. The North Central Railway took the initiative with a recent trial of a Kavach-equipped train, achieving speeds of 160km/h.
This trial tested the system's response in scenarios where the train operator fails to act on signals. The tests utilized a semi-high-speed VAP-5 engine, integral to the operations of prestigious services like the Shatabdi and Gatimaan Express, both of which are already outfitted with the Kavach system.

The test run spearheaded by the North Central Railway traversed the tracks from Palwal in Haryana to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. Commentators from DriveSpark noted that during this pivotal trial, the Kavach-equipped train managed to stop a mere 30 meters short of a red signal, demonstrating the system's efficiency.
