Historic Trial Run Of Train Over World's Tallest Railway Bridge, Chenab

The Union Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, declared the test run of the Sangaldan-Reasi train, a significant achievement as it crossed the tallest railway bridge globally, the Chenab. Vaishnaw stated, "The inaugural trial train has completed its journey from Sangaldan to Reasi, including crossing the iconic Chenab Bridge."

Vaishnaw confirmed that most construction works for the Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) Project are nearly completed. "All construction works for the USBRL are nearly finished, with tunnel No.1 remaining partially incomplete," he noted.

Limca Book of Records Achievement

Earlier, the Ministry of Railways was recognised in the "Limca Book of Records" for organising an event attended by 40,19,516 people at 2,140 venues. This event, held on February 26, 2024, marked the inauguration of road over/under railway bridges and the laying of foundation stones for railway stations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains to Launch Soon

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also announced that India's first Vande Bharat sleeper trains will be operational within two months. "The completion work of the trainset of the Vande Bharat sleeper train is in full swing, and the first train will be on track within two months," he said. The trainset is manufactured by BEML Ltd at its rail unit in Bangalore.

The Vande Bharat sleeper train boasts a body made of high-grade austenitic stainless steel and includes crash-worthy elements. These trains are designed to comply with stringent safety standards and adhere to the Fire standard requirements as per EN45545 HL3 grade.

Design and Functionality

Vaishnaw highlighted the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains. "From the front nose cone to interior panels, seats and berths, interior lights, couplers, gangways and beyond, every element is meticulously designed to meet the exacting standards of the sleeper trainset," he said.

India's first semi-high-speed indigenously built Vande Bharat trains have changed passenger experiences. Following this success, Indian Railways will launch the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h, as an alternative to the Rajdhani Express for premium long-distance travel.

DriveSpark Thinks

The Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, taller than the Eiffel Tower, is a feat of engineering. It stands at 359 metres above the Chenab River and is 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This structural marvel is part of the USBRL Project.

As the USBRL Project nears completion, Indian Railways is close to connecting the Kashmir Valley to the national railway network. The achievement underscores the engineering capabilities of Indian Railways.
