India' Longest Road Tunnel Set To Open — The Tunnel Of Hope
India's longest tunnel with 9.2km will connect Chenani and Nashri in Jammu & Kashmir.
India is all set to receive its longest road tunnel of 9.2km and will open in March 2017, connecting Chenani and Nashri in Jammu & Kashmir is being touted as the "Tunnel of Hope". The structure ensures that all-weather connectivity will decrease the reach between Jammu and Kashmir by 38km.
As per reports, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has indicated that PM Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the project. The work on the 9.2km tunnel started back in May 2011 and was originally scheduled for completion by August 2016.
An NHAI official said, "This project along with the other tunnel between Quazigund and Banihal on this corridor will be a big boost to state's economy. These two projects will provide all-weather connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir and reduce the distance by at least 50km, saving at least two-and-half-hours journey,"
The Chenani-Nashri connectivity will be a single tunnel with 9.3-metre width and an escape tunnel in case of an emergency, while Quazigund-Banihal reach will have twin tubes with a diameter of seven metres each.
While the all-weather tunnels will serve traders transport fruits produced from this area to other parts of the country, it will also guarantee a seamless supply of essential items to Jammu & Kashmir even during winter and rainy season.
Additionally, it will also increase food processing industry in the region and generates jobs for locals.
While road tunnel will help get through to your destination during winter and rainy season, an SUV will take you places with its off-road capabilities. One such is the newly revealed Range Rover Velar, below is the photo gallery of the SUV, click to view.
