India’s Costliest Registration Number Sold for ₹1.17 Crore in Haryana
Most Indians are obsessed with lucky and fancy numbers. Many prefer to have their lucky digits on vehicles, homes, and even workplaces. This obsession recently reached a new peak when a man from Haryana purchased India's most expensive car registration number.
India's Costliest Registration Number
This man spent ₹1.17 crore to acquire the plate 'HR88B8888', setting a new record for the costliest registration number in the country. While his identity and the car brand remain undisclosed, Haryana has set a new record for the sale of the most expensive number plate.

In Haryana, from Monday to Wednesday, an auction for the VIP or fancy numbers would take place. Bidders would apply for the number of their choices. This particular auction took place at the official portal fancy.parivahan.gov.in.
The plate HR88B8888 was auctioned, with 45 participants, and the base price was set at 50,000 rupees. By noon, the price had already reached 88 lakhs, and by the end of the day at 5 PM, it was 1.17 crores, making it India's most expensive car registration number.
The biggest highlight for this particular number plate was its visual appeal. HR is the State code of Haryana, 88 is the RTO code, B is the vehicle series code, and 8888 is the fancy registration number. Visually, the plate's HR88B888 looks very even and appealing. Even the Vehicle series Code 'B' blends with the number '8'.

Recently, 'HR22W2222' was sold for 37.91 lakh rupees, and within one week, the record was broken with 'HR88B8888' fetching a massive 1.17 crore. In 2022, a man from Chandigarh bought a number plate for 15 lakhs for his 55,000 Activa scooter.
In Kerala, a man bought KL 07 DG 0007' for 45 lakhs as the number resembles the iconic James Bond code. People's obsession with fancy registration numbers has reached a new high with this ₹1.17 crore plate. It is no surprise if this record gets broken in the coming months or years.
