India’s Costliest 'HR88B8888' Number Plate Buyer Faces Inquiry

History was made in Haryana when a man bought the 'HR88B8888' Number plate for a whopping 1.17 crore rupees in an auction. It became India's costliest number plate, and every media outlet highlighted the news headline on their front pages.

A businessman named Sudhir Kumar was the one who bought the number plate for such a huge amount. But everything went in vain as the man failed to make the payment on time. The last date to make the payment was December 1, 2025, at 12 PM.

As he failed to pay the money, the number plate will be re-auctioned. It has been said that Sudhir, who owns a private company, bought this number plate against his family's wishes. VIP number plates require the bidders to pay a Rs 10,000 security deposit and a Rs 1,000 registration fee. This plate falls into the VIP category as it resembles a string full of '8'.

HR88B8888 plate to be re-auctioned?

Now, the state government has requested the income tax department to investigate Sudhir's assets to check whether he is really worth 1.17 crores. The government also wants to prevent bidders from increasing the cost of the number plate without enough financial backing.

However, the Bidder has stated that he attempted to deposit the bidding amount, but due to a technical glitch, it failed. He also said discussions were made inside his family with the elderly people who are not in favour of him buying the costly number plate. But he still favours buying the 'HR88B8888' plate.

The Auction for the 'HR88B8888' was held last week, and a total of 45 bidders participated. The base price was set at 50,000 rupees, and Sudhir Kumar bought the plate for 1.17 crores. Sudhir won't be allowed to participate this time if the plate is re-auctioned.
