Researchers Extracting Fuel From Ice Cream!

The cool, yummy ice cream will not only satiate your taste buds but will also run your car in the future, according to researcher. A team of researchers lead by Professor Nick Turner are using synthetic biology to extract fatty acids and fatty molecules from house hold materials such as ice cream, soaps and shampoos.

We all know that crude oil or petroleum is a combination of complex hydrocarbons. The researchers say similar hydrocarbons can be extracted from materials such as ice cream and create ready to use fuel for your car.

The research on extracting fuel from ice cream is being conducted at the university of Manchester. The researchers have identified the hydro carbons found in ice cream, soaps and shampoos. Hydro carbons are common chemicals in many materials we use.

Ice Cream Fuel

The researchers are still working on the topic. They have theoretical proof of ice cream becoming a fuel for your car. But more research is needed to show this practically and cost effectively.

While one might consider such research of trying to find fuel from weird sources as a waste of time and money there is another factor that one needs to consider. With the increasing amounts of fuel we are burning daily, alternative sources of fuel and energy will become crucial on the long run.

The petroleum wells around the world are bound to dry up and if we have to have a means of transport that is anywhere close to normal, such research on alternative fuels are the only way ahead.
