The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV offers a very useful Vehicle 2 Load (V2L) feature which allows owners to charge up their household devices through the car's battery pack. Hyundai recently demonstrated the Ioniq 5's V2L capabilities by powering a reindeer farm in northern Norway.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was the sole power source for the Tromso Artic Reindeer farm which is located in Northern Norway in an area that sits above the Arctic Circle. The Ioniq 5 supplied energy to an off-grid cabin for a cosy dinner that was powered by the electric crossover's V2L feature.

Hyundai claims that Northern Norway, within the Arctic Circle was the perfect location to put its V2L technology to the test. The area where the remote reindeer farm is located claims Hyundai, faces quite a few challenges, including restricted access to a reliable and clean source of energy and adverse weather conditions.
Hyundai states that "V2L gives those living in remote areas the ability to power and charge their electronic devices all without generating emissions. That means that, even in regions of the world that exist off-grid, V2L can power modern and electrified lifestyles."

So what exactly is V2L and how does it work? V2L describes a bi-directional transfer of electrical power which allows EVs like the Ioniq 5 to transfer energy to devices plugged into it. Hyundai's E-GMP EV platform sports an Integrated Charge Control Unit mounted to it as standard which allows the bi-directional flow of electricity to and from the batteries of vehicles such as the Ioniq 5 and the Ioniq 6.
This feature means that the Ioniq 5 can basically act as a gigantic power bank on wheels. The Ioniq 5 sports a 220V V2L behind the rear seats and the electric car with a specific adapter provided by Hyundai Mobis can supply up to 3.6 kilowatts of power from an additional external electrical outlet.

Thoughts About The Hyundai Ioniq 5's V2L Capabilities
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 with its brilliant V2L function can act as a mobile power bank which makes it the perfect car to take for a camping trip.
