Hydroplaning World Record Set By Formula Offroad Buggy
Moving at 87 km/h, Iceland's Gudbjørn Grimsson has now become the world's fastest man to drive a car....on water.
Gudbjørn Grimsson is a Formula Offroad driver and the car is not ordinary four wheeler, but is a 1600 horsepower beast. It is, thus, aptly named, Insane Racing twin-turbo buggy.
Travelling at 87 km/h Grimsson covered the 1001-foot wide river as his Nelson Racing 1600bhp Ford V8 buggy skimmed across the surface.
This a made possible because of two things. The first being the incredibly powerful engine and more importantly, those massive tyres with treads that act like a paddle.
Since this was the first time hydroplaning was measured, Grimsson attempt is a world record. But the record won't stay for very long because Grimsson will be back next year to try and reach 100 km/h. That's if someone else does not break it before.
