Automated cars may very well be the future of the automotive industry. To navigate through the world around them these automatons 'see' what lies ahead with the help of lasers that scan in real-time 3D.

What exactly these robots of the future see is absolutely enthralling, as a team from ScanLAB Projects and the New York Times Magazine found out, when they drove a Honda CR-V with a scanning laser attached to it through London.

The major issue is that these can be deceived quite easily by shiny surfaces and cause anomalies that trouble the computer brain decoding the images. Small time issues like a light drizzle can cause issues with the efficiency of the lasers used.
