Hotel Hyundai Is The World's First Car-Powered Hotel - The Perfect Eco-Glamping Experience?
South Korean carmaker Hyundai has revealed the 'Hyundai Hotel' at the edge of Epping Forest in Sussex, just about an hour outside of London, UK.
South Korean carmaker Hyundai has revealed the 'Hotel Hyundai' at the edge of Epping Forest in Sussex, just about an hour outside of London, UK.
Hotel Hyundai is a partnership between the South Korean carmaker and Grace Dent, a British broadcaster and food critic. Dent also acts as the curator for Hotel Hyundai.
Hotel Hyundai features a high-end luxury wooden cabin by Colemans Farm that sports everything you can expect from a luxury boutique hotel. However, unlike every other hotel in the world, all the features at Hotel Hyundai, from the lights and charging points to the kettle and shower, are all powered by the Ioniq 5 EV.
Hotel Hyundai uses the Ioniq 5's Vehicle-to-Load technology for all its needs. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 can supply AC power (230V/50Hz) up to a maximum of 3.6kW (or 15 Amps). An adapter from the car provides a socket into which standard domestic appliances can be plugged into.
Hyundai has also added a bar and restaurant to the hotel. The menu and mixology for the bar and restaurant of Hotel Hyundai have been curated by Grace Dent. Hotel Hyundai offers its guests indoor-outdoor dining and cooking over fire experience while the bar and restaurant area will have an IONIQ 5 coffee lounge, with expertly prepared espresso powered by the car.
To finish off the eco-glamping experience, Hotel Hyundai also offers a cinema setup for its guests with films from a car-powered projector and speakers, with a V2L-powered popcorn machine for the true cinema experience.
Hotel Hyundai opened on the 19th of October and will remain so till the 5th of November. The hotel will only be operational between Wednesdays and Sundays. Guests who won the chance to stay at the unique hotel are being offered welcome cocktails, a three-course meal, an evening film and a breakfast hamper as part of the full experience on offer at Hotel Hyundai.
Speaking about Hotel Hyundai and Ioniq 5's V2L feature, Ashley Andrew, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor UK said, "Our award-winning IONIQ 5 is able to power Hotel Hyundai using its V2L feature, where an adapter from the car provides a socket which domestic appliances can be plugged into. The whole experience demonstrates the practicality of this pioneering technology, and we hope the concept inspires more people to go off grid."
Sharing her thoughts, Hotel Hyundai curator Grace Dent said, "We're looking for unique, memorable stays more now than ever and this is a delicious blend of innovation, luxury and comfort that gets you thinking. With power coming from the car, where could Hotel Hyundai pop-up next? I'm excited for those staying with us to sample the sustainable, locally sourced menu as well as the equally fabulous cocktails, and of course to enjoy a good night's sleep. I hope this three-week pop-up hotel is just the start for this concept of a car plugging in and powering a luxury experience like this. I'm predicting that guests will be hoping that his amazing hotel and the full experience it offers might be here again in 2023."
Thoughts About Hotel Hyundai
Hotel Hyundai shows off a very interesting take on eco-friendly vacations as people become increasingly conscious of their effect on the environment. Hotel Hyundai also shows off the brilliant V2L feature of the Ioniq 5 EV.
