Highway Robbery In Coimbatore Highlights Persistent Safety Issues
Highway robbery remains a persistent issue in India, characterised by the use of weapons to intimidate and steal from individuals in public places. Despite changes in roads, vehicles, and weapons, the essence of robbery has not altered. A recent incident on a busy highway in Coimbatore has garnered significant attention online.
On the early morning of June 14, five Keralite youngsters were travelling from Bengaluru to Kochi after purchasing computers. Their journey took a dangerous turn on the Salem-Kochi National Highway when another car intercepted them. The attackers, also from Kerala, attempted to rob the group.

The robbers used weapons to break the windows of the youngsters' car, causing significant damage. The video of the incident shows the victims shouting for help and visibly scared. However, they managed to escape by reversing their car for a short distance.
The Coimbatore police acted swiftly based on the video evidence. They arrested five individuals involved in the robbery attempt: Aslam, Siddique, Charles Regi, and two others. This quick response highlights the importance of video evidence in solving crimes.
Night Travel Risks
Many people prefer travelling at night to save time and money due to reduced traffic and better mileage. However, night travel carries inherent risks, including accidents and potential robberies. Darkness can conceal dangers that are not as prevalent during daylight hours.
