Bangalore To Have India’s First Helicopter Taxi Service
Bangalore will get India’s first helicopter taxi service starting Nover this year and here’s what one can expect.
Now, this is something that would have been in mind for many - helicopter taxi service. Bangalore will get the country's first helicopter taxi service by November 2017. Thumby Aviation has partnered with the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) to offer the service.
Thumby Aviation will use Bell 412 -13 seater and Bell 407 - 5 seater helicopters as taxis and will ferry passengers from BIAL to electronic city, which will take 15 minutes. The pricing is yet to be fixed.
Jayant Sinha, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation said the government has been encouraging the use of helicopters in the cities under the Open Sky Policies which allow helicopters to fly under 5000 feet without a flight plan.

As of now, Bangalore city has 90 helipads, including the ones on rooftops that are not in use. The government is in the process of getting the necessary paperwork to get them operational soon.
