Guardrails are designed to prevent the vehicles from going off-road. Especially on hilly roads, the guardrails plays a vital role from preventing the vehicles tumbling down the cliff. The video you are going to watch now demonstrates the same.
Rally driver Tomasz Kasperczyk was competing in his Ford Fiesta R5 rally car in the Rally Islas Canarias. On the twisty road, he suffered brake failure on his car. In a tight right-hander, he locked his rear right wheel.
Kasperczyk could not turn the car and headed straight into the guardrail. The guardrail did its job and took the brunt of the impact and prevented the car from tumbling down the cliff.
Immediately, the co-driver pops out of the car and displays the OK sign to the helicopter shooting the action. Seconds later driver also comes out of the car and indicates he is fine. Without the guardrail, it would have been a lot worse. Both the driver and co-driver would have tumbled down the cliff.
