Big Relief For Toll Plaza Residents: Government Plans Unlimited Local FasTag Pass

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning to introduce a new local toll pass that could allow residents living near toll plazas to cross without waiting or paying repeatedly.

The government is also working on a barrier-less toll collection system, in which local residents living within a 20-kilometre radius of toll plazas could benefit through special unlimited digital passes.

Special FasTag passes For Local Residents Near Tolls

According to reports, these local residents may be allowed to use toll plazas through Aadhaar-linked verification. Many citizens who live close to toll booths currently have to pay toll charges even for their daily and essential travel, which increases their transportation expenses significantly.

Since these residents are located near toll plazas, they often end up paying more than long-distance travellers for routine commutes. Taking this issue into account, the government is now considering a new toll access system that could offer unlimited toll crossings for eligible local residents.

Under this upcoming plan, residents living near toll plazas could receive a special digital pass linked to their Aadhaar. This would help verify their residential address and determine eligibility. Once approved, they may be able to cross through the upcoming barrier-less toll systems without repeated payments.

FasTag Pass

Currently, local residents near toll plazas can avail a monthly pass priced at Rs 350. However, the proposed digital local pass is expected to be cheaper and could offer unlimited access, making it more practical and cost-effective. FASTag has become increasingly user-friendly for private vehicle owners over the years. The government's annual FASTag plan has already received strong appreciation from consumers, as it reduces the average toll fee to around Rs 15 per crossing at an annual cost of Rs 3,075. Now, this upcoming local pass system could further improve convenience for residents living near toll plazas.
