Google Reportedly Designing Its Own Self Driving Cars & Robo-Taxi

We might have to look no further than the all-powerful internet giant Google for the next possible revolution in the automobile field. The search giant has been in the business of testing automated cars for some time now. These cars are mostly modified Toyota Prius which are controlled by Google's artificial intelligence software.

However, Google has not been able to convince any automobile manufacturer to implement its self driving technology into their cars. Hence, Jessica Lessin reports, citing sources, the Mountain View based tech giant plans to move forward with its plans by designing its own car.

This does not mean the tech giant will start rolling out new self driving cars out of its own manufacturing facilities. For that matter, Google does not even build tech hardware such as its phones and tablets. Its Nexus line of devices are instead built by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) based on Google's specifications.

If true, the same would be the case with its automated cars. In fact, only recently, reports emerged that Google is working together with Continental AG (car tyre and parts manufacturer) and IBM on self driving cars.

The lengthy report by Lessin also talks about a said plan by Google to build a fleet of ‘robo-taxis' with its self driving cars which, in theory, has the potential to revolutionize public transport.
