Girl Knocks Down Cyclist As They Don't Pay RoadTax
"I really need to wake up earlier.. I cannot do this EVERY SINGLE DAY to my poor car!"
These are the exact words posted by a 21 year old UK girl on her Twitter account after she knocked down a bicyclist with her car.
As you would expect the tweet became viral pretty soon and landed the girl, Emma Way in soup. A little probing revealed the victim was a rather cool headed, Toby Hockley. Her Twitter account has since been deleted and she has received summons from the Norfolk police, which caught scent of the matter due to the uproar created by the tweet. It is not clear what charges were pressed against her.
Hockley on the other hand was not too badly hurt, but it could easily have been much more serious. He did not press charges against Emma and only stated she has made a bit of a fool of herself.
The incident brings forth a serious issue faced by bicyclists around the world, who are often treated with contempt by motorists, especially by four wheeler drivers. The disparity is particulary evident in India where it is particularly unsafe for byclists riding on city roads.
