594 km of Progress: Ganga Expressway Poised to Elevate UP on Indias Map
With an aim to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh prior to the Mahakumbh in 2025, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasized the urgent completion of the Ganga Expressway project.
This directive from the Chief Minister to the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is geared towards finishing India's soon-to-be second longest expressway by the end of this year.

Uttar Pradesh currently leads the nation with the highest number of operational expressways, boasting of six, while seven more are in the development phase. The Ganga Expressway, stretching an impressive 594 kilometers, stands out as the state's most ambitious venture, following the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway in terms of length.
Revolutionizing Uttar Pradesh's Expressway Network
Presently, the state takes pride in having four expressways listed among India's top 10 longest. The completion of the Ganga Expressway is set to propel Uttar Pradesh's standing, bringing their tally to five of the top 10 expressways across the country.
The Chief Minister recently mandated the expeditious execution of the project, with an unwavering completion deadline set for the end of 2024, in light of the forthcoming Mahakumbh event.
Strategic Connectivity and Project Details
The Ganga Expressway is poised to improve inter-district connectivity significantly, running through 518 villages in 12 districts. This infrastructural marvel will drastically reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj, crossing through Hapur, Bulandshahr, and several other districts.

The expressway's starting point is designated at Bijauli village on the Meerut-Bulandshahr (NH 334) stretch, concluding near Judapur Dadu village on (NH 19) in Prayagraj. The construction encompasses 7467 hectares of land and is projected to cost Rs 36,230 crore.
Designed with an initial six lanes, the Ganga Expressway is set to support speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour, with future plans for expansion to eight lanes. Nine public amenities complexes will be strategically established along the expressway to serve motorists, and there are plans for primary toll plazas in Meerut and Prayagraj, complemented by 15 ramp toll plazas.
Engineering Excellence and Environmental Considerations
The project will include the construction of substantial bridges over the Ganga and Ramganga rivers and a 3.50-kilometer-long airstrip in the Shahjahanpur district. To date, a majority of the necessary clearances have been acquired, signaling a clear path forward for the project.
Esteemed corporations such as IRB Infrastructure and Adani Infrastructure are at the forefront of constructing the expressway, promising a fusion of expertise and modern engineering.
DriveSpark Thinks
In conclusion, the Ganga Expressway stands as a testament to Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to infrastructural development and economic growth. As the expressway inches closer to completion, it is set to play a pivotal role in the state's connectivity landscape, fostering development and easing transportation in anticipation of the Mahakumbh in 2025.
