Four Vehicle Dealerships In Trouble For Selling Old Vehicle As New
The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has started action against the dealerships for selling old vehicles with a new date of manufacturing.
At least four automobile dealerships in Kerala are in trouble for selling year-old vehicles as if they were just out of the factory.

Regional Transport Commissioners have suspended trade licences of some of the dealers after checks revealed that they had deceived customers at Kayamkulam, Mavelikkara and Kottayam in Kerala. They have been issued show-cause notices, and the Police have registered cases aginst the dealerships for fraud and forgery.

An incident triggered the inspections at Chengannur, where officials discovered that the vehicle brought for registration were not as new as they claimed to be. The dealers were found to have tampered with the year and month of manufacturing.

The fraud came to light when authorities discovered that some least-selling categories of vehicles with 2017 production date.

Upon subsequent examinations, officials found out that the dealers had forged papers to register the old vehicle as new.

The vehicles were claimed to be manufactured from December 2016 or January 2017 batch; however, the vehicles were built early 2016.

Close to six vehicles - three cars, two motorcycles, and an auto rickshaw - were found to be older than claimed.
