Red Bull F1 Team Sets Fastest Pitstop World Record

Pit stops in motorsports are where many races are won or lost. Thus, the pitcrew of every team are set a indispensable, trained professionals who bring a superhuman level of combination of speed, coordination and skill.

Among motorsports the fastest pit stops are achieved in Formula 1, where cars are prepped in seconds. While it is common to see times ranging between 4 and 5 seconds, there have been times when a pit stop was achieved in less than 3 seconds. The last record was set in 2012 in Germany by team McLaren which replaced all four tyres in just 2.31 seconds.

That record has now been broken less than a year later by Infiniti Red Bull Racing, which changed all four wheels and tyres in an astonishing 2.05 seconds during the Grand Prix of Malaysia. Interestingly, the previous record of 2.31 seconds was beaten multiple times during this race, by multiple teams, but most of time by Red Bull. In fact, even McLaren is reported to have beat its own previous record with a time of 2.28 seconds.

Mark Webber Stop 1 (Lap 7): 2.13 seconds
Mark Webber Stop 2 (Lap 19): 2.05 seconds
Mark Webber Stop 3 (Lap 31): 2.21 seconds
Mark Webber Stop 4 (Lap 43): 2.26 seconds
