Steve McQueen's Stolen 'Bullitt' Ford Mustang Reportedly Found In Mexico
In some images posted on the Vintage Mustang Forum by member Fede Garza appears to be the second Ford Mustang used in Steve McQueen’s movie 'Bullitt'.
It's one of the most famous, adrenaline-fuelled movie car chases in history. In Bullitt, Steve McQueen, sat at the wheel of a Highland Green Ford Mustang 390 GT, goes after two culprits in a black Dodge Charger at an insane speed.
Two Mustangs were used in the film, but while one is now privately owned, the other Mustang disappeared after the filming was complete, and despite his best attempts and the resources at Steve McQueen's fingertips it was never found and hasn't been seen since.
Now it seems to have turned up, discovered by a couple of car restorers in a scrapyard in Baja California. One of the most well-known Ford expert and evaluator Kevin Marti is sure that the car is original.
Of course, he was doubtful at first as he sees fraud cars pretty much on a daily basis; however, after observing the first pictures and then travelling to Mexicali to see it in person, he's pleased to go on record.
After verifying the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and very distinct characters of the car a fraudster would unlikely know about, Marti thinks it to be one of the pairs of identical Mustangs used for the movie.
It is being reported that the owner is now taking his Mustang to California for restoration ahead of the film's 50th anniversary.
Not just Steve McQueen who loved the Ford Mustang, auto enthusiasts around the world still love to own one of them. Here is the 2017 Edition Ford Mustang in photos, click below to view.
