2,500bhp Ford GT Destroys Standing Mile Record — Who Needs A Bugatti?

A heavily modified Ford GT has laid claim to the standing mile world record by achieving speeds even Bugattis don't dare to go.

A heavily modified Ford GT (not the current car, but the V8 powered beast from a decade back) has broken the standing mile speed record at the at the Texas Mile on March 26th.

Ford GT Claims Standing Mile World Record With A Speed Of 472.5km/h

The 2006 Ford GT was run by run by tuning house M2K Motorsports, which uses twin turbochargers running at 45 psi of boost and methanol as fuel, to bring the 5.4-litre V8 engine's output up to around 2,500bhp.

The manic Ford GT screamed down the runway clocking an insane top speed of 293.6mph (472.50km/h) from a standing start at the Victoria Regional Airport in Victoria, Texas, which hosts standing mile competitions for street-legal cars, bikes, race cars, and land-speed vehicles.

The M2K Motorsports Ford GT broke the previous record of 283.232 mph (455.8km/h) set by Johnny Bohmer at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, on 16 October 2012. Bohmer used a 1700hp 2006 Ford GT to set the record.
