First Tesla Model Y Delivered In India - Joins The Garage Of This Minister
American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has delivered the first unit of the Model Y in Mumbai. The delivery of India's first Model Y post Tesla's entry into India, took place at the company's newly opened Experience Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex, where Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik received the inaugural vehicle.
The American electric carmaker launched and opened bookings for the Model Y in July, when it inaugurated its Mumbai Experience Centre at the Bandra Kurla Complex. A second outlet followed soon after in the national capital of Delhi at Aerocity.
For India, Tesla has introduced two versions of the Model Y - Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. Both variants of the Model Y sold in India follow global specifications while being adapted for the Indian market in terms of features and available configurations.
The Rear-Wheel Drive variant is priced at ₹59.89 lakh ex-showroom, while the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is listed at ₹67.89 lakh ex-showroom. Details of which variant was delivered to the Maharashtra Transport Minister are currently not available.
The Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive comes with a choice between two battery packs. The standard 60 kWh unit delivers a claimed WLTP range of 500 kilometres, while the larger 75 kWh battery option increases the estimated range to 622 kilometres on a single charge.
Tesla has equipped both variants with a host of features. Highlights include a 15.4-inch central infotainment screen paired along with optional displays for the rear passengers. The Model Y SUV also offers a power-adjustable steering column, dual-zone automatic climate control, and power-operated heated and ventilated seats.
The Tesla Model Y also gets 19-inch alloy wheels, a fixed glass roof, and a powered rear liftgate. Customers can personalise their vehicles with seven exterior colour options and two distinct interior trim choices.
Tesla's first Model Y delivery in Mumbai, made to Maharashtra's Transport Minister, marks a milestone for the company in India. While the Model Y has only garnered 600 bookings to date (thanks to the inflated price caused by "huge" import taxes), the visibility provided with a sitting minister travelling around in one of these EVs will surely build up interest in the American electric car.
