FIR Against Anand Mahindra & 12 Others – Company Releases Press Statement
Recently, a criminal case was lodged against Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra and 12 others in Uttar Pradesh for "False Assurances" on the safety of cars produced by their company.
This complaint has caused much stir and confusion over the internet. Following this, many rumours also started spreading like wildfire. Now, Mahindra & Mahindra has officially released a press statement to bring clarity to the issue surrounding the company and its chairman.

Speaking about the incident, the FIR was filed in Kanpur against Anand Mahindra and 12 others on the basis of a complaint filed by Rajesh Mishra. As per the complaint, Rajesh Mishra alleged that false assurance about the safety of the vehicle led to the demise of his son.
Looking into the details of the complaint, Rajesh Mishra purchased a Mahindra Scorpio SUV in December 2020 and gifted the SUV to his son Dr Apoorv Mishra. However, Rajesh Mishara's purchase decision was influenced by the security aspect of the model post seeing advertisements and social media posts.
Unfortunately on 14 January 2022, Dr Apporv Mishara along with his friends were involved in an accident while returning to Kanpur from Lucknow. The accident happened as the Scorpio they were travelling hit the divider.
According to the reports, this accident happened due to reduced visibility caused by the thick fog. After hitting the divider, the Mahindra Scorpio overturned multiple times and this accident resulted in the death of Dr Apoorv Mishra.
As per the complaint filed by Rajesh Mishra, all occupants in the Mahindra Scorpio SUV were wearing seatbelts and the airbags failed to deploy, which was the primary cause for the loss of his son's life. He also alleged that the model did not even have airbags fitted in it.
In response to these allegations and complaint (23 September 2023), Mahindra released a press statement stating that the Mahindra Scorpio S9 variant involved in the accident sported airbags and there was no malfunction of it.
However, the press statement did confirm that the accident was 'Rollover' and in that case, the frontal airbags will not be deployed. In the press statement, the company also shared their condolences to the family of Dr Apoorv Mishra.
