Video: Horrifying Ferrari 458 Crash At Suzuka
A Ferrari 458 Challenge race car crashed last month at the world famous Suzuka circuit in Japan. The crash was so brutal that the Ferrari 458 was literally ripped to shreds of carbon fiber and aluminium. While the driver, Shigeru Terajima survived the crash he was said to be in a critical condition. It is now reported that he is recovering well. Also on the path of the Ferrari 458 was a track worker, who had a narrow escape and escaped relatively unharmed.
The exact reason for the crash is not known, but the driver lost control at nearly 200 mph (321 km/h) at the end of the start-finish straight and crashed into the barrier. While the track steward saved himself by jumping out of the way at the last moment, driver Terajima has only the high safety standards maintained in modern cars to thank, as well as the safety measures put in place at racing circuits.
The Ferrari 458 Challenge series race cars are much faster than standard Ferrari 458 Italia supercars, but also come with added safety measures, including full roll cage, racing seats and harness and more. Also, the Ferrari 458's central compartment, constructed from aluminium is the only part of the car that survived, essentially saving the driver's life, while the rest of the car disintegrated.
