FASTag Annual Pass Gets Costlier In India: NHAI To Hike Price From April 1, 2026
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the price of the FASTag Annual Pass in India. The annual pass system was introduced to enhance the travelling experience for frequent highway users by offering a more convenient and cost-effective toll payment option. Under this system, an annual charge of ₹3,000 allows users to make 200 toll crossings, effectively bringing the cost down to ₹15 per toll crossing.
FASTag Annual Pass Prices Hiked
Introduced on August 15, 2025, the Annual Toll Pass has provided significant relief to commuters by helping them avoid higher individual toll charges during frequent highway travel. However, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has now revised the annual pass pricing. From April 1, 2026, new users will need to pay an additional ₹75, bringing the annual fee to ₹3,075.

The Annual Pass is eligible only for personal vehicles, such as cars, vans, and jeeps. Commercial vehicles are not eligible for this scheme and will continue to follow the regular toll payment system. With the number of personal vehicles on Indian roads increasing every year, the FASTag Annual Pass has played a significant role in simplifying toll payments and encouraging digital transactions.
Since its introduction, more than 50 lakh users across the country have benefited from the annual toll pass system. Around 28% of car users now prefer the annual toll method, as it is considered more convenient and cost-effective compared to paying individual toll charges. In addition, over 98% of highway toll payments in India are now collected through FASTag, which has helped reduce cash transactions, corruption, and misuse at toll plazas.
Region-wise data show that the Chandigarh region recorded the highest annual pass usage, accounting for 14% of transactions. Tamil Nadu ranked second with 12.3%, followed by Delhi at 11.5%. Between August 2025 and January 2026, a total of 26.55 crore transactions were recorded through the FASTag Annual Pass system.

Things to Know About Annual FASTag
The Annual Pass is valid only at toll plazas operated on National Highways. Users will still need to pay toll charges at state-operated toll plazas, so maintaining a sufficient FASTag balance remains essential while travelling across different highway networks.
Users should also note that once the annual limit of 200 trips is exhausted, the FASTag will automatically switch to the regular toll deduction system, where toll charges will be deducted as per the standard rates. Additionally, if the 200 trips are not fully utilised within the validity period, the remaining trips will not be carried forward to the following year.
