FIA Makes Last-Minute Changes To The Bahrain Grand Prix: All Details Here

The FIA quickly made changes to the Bahrain International Circuit after facing issues during pre-season testing weekend. These changes are important for the upcoming Grand Prix. Here's what you should know about them.

The FIA acted quickly to fix problems during pre-season testing, especially at Turn 11 which was found to be a problematic corner. Drivers had to change their racing lines because of drain covers that had come loose and were sticking up.

As FIA wants to fix the drainage cover problems as soon as possible. Track engineers solved the issue by adding concrete to certain drain areas.

Concrete work has also been done near Turn 7, allowing drivers to stick to their preferred racing lines through the turns without having to slow down and avoid wearing out their tyres much. This change is important for keeping race times competitive and making sure tyres last longer.

In his race notes, F1 race director Niels Wittich stressed the significance of these changes, making sure that all teams and drivers are informed about the modifications before the Grand Prix weekend.

These changes come after incidents during pre-season testing, where loose drain covers caused major disruptions. The ground effect floors of modern F1 cars were found to be part of the problem, leading to the need for quick action.

In an interview, the chief technical officer of Red Bull, Adrian Newey, pointed out that the size and weight of modern F1 cars were what was causing the problem to happen repeatedly.

The decision to use concrete for the repairs and modifications of the track was made easier by the good weather forecasts for the race weekend. This means that the worry about the track's drainage won't matter when making these changes.

Saturday, March 1st, 2024 is when the Bahrain Grand Prix is set to be held as the next day, the 2nd of March is the start of the Holy month of Ramadan. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix has also been rescheduled to Saturday, March 9th.
