Dubai Airshow: Emirates Places $52 Billion Order For Boeing Widebody Aircraft - The Future's Wide
Emirates, the flagship carrier of Dubai, has made an emphatic statement at the Dubai Airshow. The airline has placed an order for 78 new Boeing wide-body aircraft, in deals worth a staggering $52 billion.
The new order, which increases Emirates' 777X family backlog to 205 planes, was announced during the Dubai Airshow at a signing event attended by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group; and Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

This investment marks a significant milestone for Emirates post the madness of the pandemic and reaffirms the airline's commitment to expanding and modernising its fleet.
The 78 aircraft order includes 58 Boeing 777-9s and 20 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners. These new additions will augment Emirates' current fleet of wide-body aircraft, further enhancing the Dubai flagship airline's capacity to serve a global network of destinations.
The Boeing 777-9 is renowned for its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. With a seating capacity of up to 426 passengers and a range of over 13,000 kilometres, it offers airlines the ability to fly more people further.
On the other hand, the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, the largest variant of the Dreamliner series, can carry up to 330 passengers and boasts fuel efficiency and lower emissions that is up to 25 per cent better than that of rivals of a similar size.
"Emirates is the biggest operator of Boeing 777 aircraft, and today's order cements that position," said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group. "We've been closely involved in the 777 program since its start up until this latest generation of 777X aircraft. The 777 has been central to Emirates' fleet and network strategy of connecting cities on all continents non-stop to Dubai. We are pleased to extend our relationship with Boeing and look forward to the first 777-9 joining our fleet in 2025."
In addition to the aircraft orders, Emirates also announced that it had signed a services agreement with Boeing. This agreement covers maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the newly ordered aircraft. This holistic approach ensures the longevity and performance of their expanding fleet.
