eBarracuda: India's Solar-Electric Boat Ushers In A Greener Marine Era
India has taken a significant leap forward in green marine transport with the launch of its fastest solar-electric boat, eBarracuda. This cutting-edge marine creation is the result of a collaborative effort between two of the region's most influential maritime forces: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders and Nawalt of Kochi, Kerala.
The eBarracuda sets sail as Kerala's pride, highlighting the state's commitment to sustainable transportation solutions. The eBarracuda was unveiled at an event teeming with anticipation and environmental promise. It took place at the verdant Panavalli farm estate in Navkathi, Alappuzha, drawing an audience keen to witness marine innovation first-hand.

The ceremony blossomed under the helm of key figures, including Sanjay Kumar Singh of Mazagon Dock Limited and Sandith Thandassery, the visionary CEO of Nawalt, reaffirming the collective dedication to pioneering electric marine travel.
Deriving its name from the ocean's swift predator, the Barracuda, and prefixed with 'E' to denote its electric propulsion, the boat showcases an innovative design. Resembling its namesake fish, the eBarracuda is distinguished by a prominent wide-mouthed frontal design.

Designed by the adept souls at Nawalt and constructed by Mazagon Dock, the eBarracuda is a testament to the prowess of Indian shipbuilding. This electric vessel boasts an impressive top speed of 12 mph, with batteries that sustain seamless travel for up to 7 hours on a single charge.
Here's a glance at the eBarracuda's specifications:
| Length | 14 meters |
|---|---|
| Width | 4.4 meters |
| Motor | 50 kW electric motor |
| Battery Type | Lithium-iron-phosphate |
| Max Solar Energy | 6 kilowatts |
| Passenger Capacity | 12 persons |
Beyond its size and powertrain, the eBarracuda stands out because of its whisper-quiet operation—a stark contrast to its louder marine counterparts. By eliminating noise and vibrations, every excursion promises to be as serene as the stillness of the sea itself. Also, designed to weather up to 4 meters of wave height.
Charting a Course to Recognition
Nawalt's innovations in electric boating have not gone unnoticed, garnering international awards and acclaim. The eBarracuda joyously joins the roster of these commendable vessels. What Drivespark notes is the burgeoning interest in electric vehicles, and eBarracuda champions this rise, taking it a notch higher.
The beauty of solar-electric boats such as the eBarracuda is twofold—not only do they steer away from fossil fuel dependency, but they also harness energy directly from the inexhaustible sun. As we watch the eBarracuda carve its path across the waters, it symbolizes a beacon of sustainability.
India's marine industry has unequivocally signalled its readiness to ride the wave of renewable energy, with the eBarracuda leading the fleet into a more responsible future.
