Nitin Gadkari Clears E100 Ethanol As Transport Fuel: More Flex-Fuel Cars And Bikes Coming Soon

Nitin Gadkari has announced that the government has legalised the use of E100 ethanol as a regular transportation fuel. He also stated that more manufacturers are expected to unveil their flex-fuel vehicles in the coming months.

India is steadily moving towards cleaner fuel alternatives, and ethanol is emerging as one of the key options to replace regular petrol. Amid ongoing economic challenges and global fuel supply disruptions, many countries that heavily depend on crude oil imports are facing major difficulties.

E100 Ethanol

Being one of the world's largest importers of crude oil, remains vulnerable to fluctuations in global oil prices. The government now wants to reduce this dependency and move towards energy independence.

Ethanol, which is produced from agricultural products, is seen as a strong alternative for India's self-reliance strategy. Since it can be locally produced, it helps strengthen domestic fuel supply while also reducing crude oil imports and saving valuable foreign exchange.

E100 Ethanol Now Legal In India

E100 Ethanol

To support India's policy towards clean and green fuel adoption, Nitin Gadkari confirmed that 100 per cent ethanol can now be used as a transportation fuel. This move paves the way for wider adoption of ethanol-powered vehicles across the country.

Recently, Maruti Suzuki unveiled its 100 per cent ethanol-compatible Maruti Suzuki WagonR, while Hero MotoCorp launched production-ready flex-fuel versions of the Hero Splendor Plus and Hero HF Deluxe.

With this announcement, more manufacturers like Hyundai Motor Company, MG Motor, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Toyota are also expected to introduce ethanol-compatible vehicles.

Hydrogen Fuel

Additionally, the government has launched pilot projects for hydrogen-powered mobility, especially for buses. Hydrogen, produced through electrolysis, is another promising clean fuel that can significantly reduce emissions, particularly in heavy commercial vehicles.

Along with electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered mobility, and ethanol-based fuels, India is building a diverse green mobility ecosystem. These alternatives are expected to shape the future of transportation as the country looks to reduce its dependence on crude oil and secure long-term fuel stability.
