Get Ready to Fly: Dubai to Launch Flying Taxis by 2026

Dubai is embracing the future of transportation with a groundbreaking agreement to bring flying taxi services to the city by 2026. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is leading the way in urban air mobility, making flying taxis a reality in the near future.

This innovative initiative is a collaborative effort involving the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Skyports, and Joby Aviation, underscoring the UAE’s commitment to pioneering futuristic transportation solutions.

This pact was ceremoniously sealed ahead of the world government summit, witnessed by the esteemed Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

Strategic Launch Locations and Vertiport Connectivity

In its initial phase, this avant-garde air taxi service will cater to passengers from four strategically chosen locations: Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. Remarkably, air taxis will be capable of reaching Palm Jumeirah's Vertiport in just 10 minutes, cruising at speeds up to 320 kilometers per hour.

This high-speed connectivity is further enhanced by integrating Vertiport with the metro station, ensuring seamless travel for passengers. Each air taxi will accommodate up to five individuals, including the pilot, promising an exclusive and efficient travel experience.

Preparations and Infrastructure Development

Joby Aviation's CEO and founder, Joben Bevirt, announced that test flights are scheduled to commence next year, aiming to make these services available to the public by 2026. Skyports, a leading British company specializing in the development of air transport infrastructures, has been entrusted with constructing the Vertiports.
