Former US President Donald Trump's Lamborghini Diablo Sells For Record Amount

A Lamborghini Diablo once owned by former United States President Trump has sold for a record amount at an auction in the US state of Arizona. The Diablo once owned by President Trump sold for a record $1.1 Million (including the 10% auction premium) at Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale auction.

The Lamborghini Diablo owned by Trump is a 1997 Diablo VT Roadster and has 15,431 miles (24,834 kilometres) on the odometre. Only 132 Diablo VT Roadsters were made for the US market, which makes the former President's supercar a very rare commodity there.

But there are a few other bits on the 1997 Diablo VT Roadster that was sold at auction. The first is the Le Mans blue paint scheme, which was not offered by Lamborghini for 1997, making the former President's car a truly unique offering.

The former American President was allowed to custom order the Diablo because of a special relationship with Lamborghini, which provided him with some "loaner" Diablos for brand and model promotional purposes.

To ensure that everyone knew just who had ordered the Diablo in question, the supercar was personalized with a "Donald Trump 1997 Diablo" plaque that was installed on the scissor door on the driver's side. Trump owned and drove the Diablo VT Roadster from 1997 to the summer of 2002. Since then the drop-top Diablo has had two more owners before it was put up for auction.

Mechanically, Trump's Diablo VT Roadster is similar to every other Diablo that bore the VT badge and used the 48 Valve, 4.7-litre naturally aspirated engine that pushed out 485bhp and 580Nm of peak torque to all four wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The claimed 0-60 miles/hour (0-96.5km/h) time was 4.1 seconds while the top speed was 325km/h.

Thoughts About The Record-Breaking Donald Trump Lamborghini Diablo

Donald Trump's Diablo VT Roadster selling for $1 Million on the block ($1.1 million with fees) is nearly double what the car would have usually commanded and the only reason for that is the fact that it was owned by the former US President.

It shows you just how much anything Trump is going for these days with the former US President looking set to make another run at the White House later this year. If he does turn out to be successful, the Donald will be seen in the back of the world's most protected car, the Beast, in January next year.
