Witness The Sky Dance of Surya Kiran Team at ICC Final!
Imagine the thrill of watching the Surya Kiran team from the Indian Air Force performing breathtaking aerial acrobatics! This is exactly what the audience will experience at the India vs Australia ICC World Cup final on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
This prestigious aerobatic team, with their nine Hawk aircraft, will put on a spectacular ten-minute air show before the match begins. The sights of the Surya Kiran team in the sky are set to add an extra layer of excitement to the much-anticipated match.

Established in 1996, Surya Kiran, the 'sunbeam' in Sanskrit, serves as the official brand ambassador for the Air Force, being part of the 52nd Squadron of the IAF. The team, distinguished for its air shows and demonstrations, performs not only on national but also international platforms. Over the years, the team has brought pride to India by performing in airshows in India, China and several other countries.
The Surya Kiran team consists of 13 pilots, out of which only nine fly at any given moment. The selection process for these pilots takes place twice a year, and the chosen ones are assigned a three-year duty with the team. The team flies the advanced Hawk MK 132 aircraft, a shift from their earlier usage of the Kiran Mk II aircraft.

What makes the Surya Kiran team stand out are their signature loop maneuvers in victory formation, barrel roll maneuvers and the formation of various shapes in the sky. They typically perform over 30 shows annually. On training days, they take to the skies three times a day, while during aerobatic displays, they fly twice.
The nine aircraft take off in clusters of three, maintaining a close formation with the wingtips less than 5 metres apart. The maneuvers carried out range in speeds from 150 to 650 km/h, subjecting the pilots to G-forces from +6 to -1.5. It is a testament to the pilots' precision, skill, and rigorous training.

The team members undergo intense training to master these complex aerobatic maneuvers. It is their expertise and impeccable coordination that are key contributors to the team's success.
The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team boasts of an impressive record of over 500 displays in 72 cities across India. They have performed from Srinagar in the north to Thiruvananthapuram in the south and from Naliya in the west to Chabua in the east.
They've even performed at an altitude of 5,436 feet in Srinagar, the highest airfield they've operated from. Their skills have also been showcased in the capital cities of Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, and Singapore.
