The genius behind this invention was Mary Anderson who noticed streetcar drivers had to open the windows of their cars when it rained in order to see, as a solution she invented a swinging arm device with a rubber blade that was operated by the driver from within the vehicle via a lever.
By 1916, windshield wipers became standard equipment on all American cars.

First Four Stroke Engine
Otto and Langen Company of Deutz, Germany invented the first practical four-stroke engine.
Otto started his own workshop supported by Langen in Deutz near Cologne in 1863. It was here they invented the four-stroke engine in 1876.
Later, a German engineer named Gottlieb Daimler developed the engine further and introduced a practical four-stroke engine which is still used in various car
models.

First Self Propelled Car
Nicolas Cugnot invented the first self-propelled car in 1769. This car was first used by French Army to move cannons. This self propelled car used an engine in the front along with a boiler and was capable of running at a speed of 6 km/h.
