Classic Vespa Scooters Not Seen By You

Vespa, the Italian scooter brand whose popularity is growing in India following the launch of the LX 125 premium lifestyle scooter, has a unique history. Named after the Italian word for wasp, the Piaggio owned scooter brand has gained popularity over the years through its distinct looking scooters.

Piaggio launched the Vespa brand of scooters in 1946 after the end of the second World War. The scooter was a result of Piaggio loosing most of its war plane manufacturing facilities during the war and Italy's roads ravaged by war not being suitable for automobiles. Piaggio seized upon this situation and launched Vespa scooters that could handle rough road conditions.

Vespa scooters gained popularity with their typical design that has inspired scooters even today. Vespa scooters entered India way back in 1960s when Bajaj Auto took a license and started building scooters. Bajaj did not renew its contract in 1971. Vespa re-entered India in 1983 when LML started building the P-Series scooters for the Indian market. The LML Vespa partnership ended in 1999.

Piaggio re-entered India again independently in 2012 by unveiling the LX 125 scooter at the Delhi Auto Expo. The LX 125, as we said earlier is quite popular now. But we would like to show you glimpses at classic Vespa scooters that were built decades ago. Some of you might not even seen them.
