China has unveiled a non-polluting train that runs on virtual tracks, in a bid to speed up public transport in cities. The new train was announced on June 2, in the Hunan Province, China.
China's rail corporation began designing the new system in 2013, and the new train that will run on virtual tracks will begin its operation in 2018.

The new train, being the first of its kind in the world, uses rubber wheels on a plastic core. The technology is copyrighted by the Chinese rail corporation. With the help of rubber tyres, the train can run without tracks.

As per reports, the new train costs only one-fifth of what a traditional subway system would cost, which is around 400 million Yuan to 700 million. Also, the new train is said to have a lifespan of 25 years.

The first car is a little over 100 feet in length, enough to carry a maximum of 307 passengers. The train can reach a top speed of 70km/h, while it can travel 25km on being charged for only 10 minutes.

According to Feng Jianghua, the Chief Engineer, the train can identify the pavement and has many sensors to relay travel information to the train. This enables the train to travel on virtual tracks.
