News has emerged that a journey from Chennai to Kolkata could soon cost just ₹600 and take only 3 hours. This remarkable development is thanks to an IIT Madras-supported startup. They are working on a new vehicle that combines high speed with fuel efficiency. This innovation has piqued the interest of many, especially regarding its availability timeline. The company is actively working to make it accessible soon.
Industrialist Anand Mahindra expressed surprise at this news, noting IIT Madras's support for numerous startups, challenging Bengaluru's dominance. Contrary to assumptions of a flying vehicle, the startup is creating a water-based vehicle. Named "Waterfly Technologies," this electric sea glider resembles a sea car. It features four wings and operates about 4 meters above water, achieving high speeds.
The sea glider promises to cover 1600 km in just 3 hours, costing ₹600 per person, making it cheaper than train travel. This innovation could revolutionise travel for common people and pose competition to air travel. Currently in early development stages, production is expected to commence soon. A prototype weighing around 100 kg has been created.
Production improvements are anticipated in the coming months, aiming for usability. Initial plans suggest the vehicle will accommodate 20 passengers and be ready for test runs by 2026. However, comprehensive details are yet to be disclosed and are expected shortly.
