Chandrayaan 3 Successfully Lands On The Moon – A Historic Moment For India

India creates yet another historic moment by successfully soft landing the Chandrayaan 3 on the south polar region of the moon. This makes India the fourth country after the US, Russia, and China to successfully accomplish soft landing on the moon.

What makes the Chandrayaan 3's mission unique is that the probe is set to land on the south polar region of the moon and this part of the moon is yet to be explored by any other nation.

This is mainly due to the difficulty associated with landing a probe in that region. Also, things get further complicated due to lunar dust, which can interfere with the sensors that are essential for soft landing.

This 40-day mission to land the Chandrayaan 3 on the south polar region of the moon is India's second attempt at soft landing a spacecraft on the surface of the Moon. Also, the probe suffered no damage during the soft landing on the moon.

It has also been informed that the propulsion module will continue to orbit the Moon even after the lander's touchdown. This is done in order to study the atmosphere of the Earth.

Speaking about the Chandrayaan 3 mission, the spacecraft successfully lifted off on July 14 at 2.35 pm. Also, the Chandrayaan 3 spacecraft was lifted off from an LVM3 rocket and this rocket propelled the spacecraft up to an altitude of 179.192 kilometres.

This powerful propulsion enabled the space craft to cover this distance in just over 16 minutes. According to ISRO, the maximum thrust achieved is said to be more than 36,000km/hr.

Fun Fact: India's budget for Chandrayaan 3 is $75 million, which is less than half the budget of the movie Interstellar ($165 million).
