Bridgestone has announced a strategic partnership with Olympic medal winning Indian badminton player, PV Sindhu. The badminton champ hailing from Hyderabad has been announced as Bridgestone's first brand ambassador in India.
Bridgestone has been the worldwide partner for the Olympic games since 2014 and has the contract for the same till 2024. Partnering with an Olympic medallist just comes as an added bonus and shows Bridgestone's focus on becoming the main world partner for the Olympics.
This announcement comes amidst Bridgestone's rapid expansion of activities in India, as the Japanese company earlier this month announced the investment of Rs 1,936 Crore in Indian operations over the next five years.
Bridgestone plans to expand its product line and the production capacities at its Chakan and Kheda plants near Pune and Indore respectively. If all goes according to plan, the two manufacturing units should have a combined manufacturing capacity of 41,000 tyres per day by 2022.
Bridgestone, the world's largest tyre manufacturing company has witnessed an increase in the demand for high quality tyres in the Indian market, which in turn is owed to the introduction of new vehicles in our market.
The recently launched Jeep Compass for example, which has received over 8,100 bookings in just under a month since its launch, runs on tyres from Firestone. Firestone is an American tyre manufacturer which is a subsidiary of Bridgestone and the brand made its debut in India with the Jeep Compass. These tyres for the Jeep SUV are also made at Bridgestone's plants in India.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Franco Anunziato said, "Ms. Sindhu exemplifies quality, discipline, and commitment through her sport. She possesses the right mix of positive attitude, humility, hard work and persistence that we celebrate with our Olympic manifesto ‘#ChaseYourDream'.
An audio visual showed PV Sindhu's hard work hard work and competency in the sport before she took centre stage.
Speaking at the event, PV Sindhu said, "Bridgestone has a strong sports lineage which is further strengthened with their Worldwide Olympic Partnership. This association is a special one and I look forward to a long and fulfilling partnership."
The contract with PV Sindhu as Bridgestone's brand ambassador is currently valid for three years. And in this period, we can expect quite a few commercials from Bridgestone, promoting the brand and the Olympics, starring PV Sindhu.
First the announcement of huge investments in India, and now, picking Indian Olympic medalist PV Sindhu as their brand ambassador. Given the strides they are making in the Indian market, it is very clear that Bridgestone is giving utmost importance to the Indian market.
Bridgestone seems to be relying on the growth of the automotive industry for its success in India, and given the rate at which new vehicles are being launched in India, Bridgestone seems to have hit the target.
