Supercars have the knack of finding their way into news around the world, ranging from their launches to spectacular crashes. To this league joins Thailand. The latest mishap happened when four supercars ended up as molten steel and melted carbon fibre after they caught fire.

When a truck was transporting a Ferrari F430 Scuderia, a Bentley Continental Flying Spur, a Lamborghini Murcielago and a BMW X6 to an exotic car auction, the BMW caught fire and soon engulfed these three vehicles as well. The truck driver was alerted about the fire by another passing truck. By the time he could do anything, it was too late for these exotics.

The story continues on the next slide.

The Ferrari F430 Scuderia was left in ruins. Along with the roof, the engine bay also took some serious damage. This car was first unveiled by Michael Schumacher himself at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2007. The F430 car was 100 kg lighter and more powerful than the standard F430. Now, it's left even lighter, with most of the engine damaged.

The second car was the Lamborghini Murcielago. This epic car from the Italian manufacturer's stables, was named after a bull who fought fearsomely for almost 24 hours, even after being pierced by 24 sword strokes. Well, the bull was spared with his life by the very matador he fought. Unfortunately for this particular Italian supercar, it took on in vain an even fiercer enemy - fire.

The next car damaged was the Bentley Continental Flying Spur. The company originally built this car as a two door version called the Continental GT. The Flying Spur is basically a longer wheelbase version of the GT. Bentley always thought more horsepower would solve the lack of aerodynamics in their cars. The build quality is almost bullet proof because unlike other supercars, they use metal and wood, not carbon fibre. This is all very well, but not in the context of fire.

All three cars suffered big damage including the BMW X6, and the cars look irreparable. The Ferrari especially, is burnt beyond recognition.

This is an unfortunate event where the owners are no doubt left with heavy hearts. Put together, the repair bills will work out to more than USD 500,000. Hope there are no gaps in the insurance policies of these charred machines...
