BMW R1200 GS Rider Dies After Being Crushed Under Trailer
A BMW R1200 GS rider lost his life after he was crushed under a trailer truck.
A young pilot lost his life after he was crushed under a trailer on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. Varun Bamrotia Ahir from Bhayander was riding his BMW R1200 GS while the accident occurred.
Mid-Day reports that Ahir was riding his BMW R1200 GS and was heading to Manor with a group of 10 to 15 bikers.

One of Ahir's friend explained how the accident happened. As soon as the group of riders reached the Sativali bridge, there was a trailer truck in the middle lane. Ahir was overtaking the truck, and that's when the unexpected happened.

The truck in the middle lane suddenly moved to the first lane and Ahir came under the rear tyre of the trailer. Soon after the accident, the driver of the truck fled the spot. Ahir was rushed to the nearest hospital, but he was declared brought dead.
Ahir's friend Prasad Patil said that he was right behind when the accident occurred and it all happened in seconds. He also said that Ahir was one of the best riders and had great control over the motorcycle. Waliv Police station has registered an FIR, and they are looking for the driver.

So what caused this accident? The main reason behind this mishap is that the driver did not spot the rider, that is because of large blind spots on vehicles especially on trailer trucks. The drivers of the heavy vehicle often fail to spot two-wheelers or even cars.

So, whenever you overtake any heavy vehicles, give a proper signal by honking or flashing the headlight and let the driver know that you are overtaking. Also, keep a safe distance between you and the heavy vehicle to avoid any mishaps as the reaction time will be very less.
Motorcycle riders should avoid riding alongside a heavy vehicle, and the overtaking should be done quickly and make sure that the driver knows you are approaching. Do not change lanes abruptly after or when overtaking a heavy vehicle as it can be dangerous.

DriveSpark Thinks!
Heavy vehicles are always a threat to bikers, especially on highways. This accident could have been avoided if the truck driver had paid little attention while changing lane. It doesn't matter which bike you ride; you should always be cautious on highways as there are a lot of heavy vehicles on the road.
