Revolutionizing The Indian Light EV Industry With Bharat Charge Alliance!

The Bharat Charge Alliance (BCA) is a collaborative platform aimed at creating a more secure and compatible ecosystem for the Indian Light EV industry. Comprised of EV manufacturers, charging station developers, component producers, battery suppliers, and charge point operators, BCA's goal is to establish a safe and interoperable charging infrastructure throughout India for all alliance members and their customers. The mission of BCA is to establish requirements that benefit all OEMs in the industry by providing additional technology beyond existing IS & IEC standards.

Leading the BCA initiative is Kapil Shelke, Founder & CEO of Tork Motors. Shelke believes in democratizing technology to make it accessible and cost-effective for consumers. Standardizing the charging infrastructure will revolutionize the experience for users of two- and three-wheelers, where there is a significant market presence and growing adoption. Interoperability and ease of access to different charging networks will alleviate concerns about EVs among skeptics.

The Alliance aims to develop a secure, reliable, and user-friendly EV charging infrastructure by implementing global protocols and standards. This will create a universal charging network that can be used by both 2W and 3W users in both consumer-facing (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) domains. Additionally, BCA supports minimal modifications to vehicles to enable cost-effective and flexible charging options.

To further its objectives, BCA has partnered with CHAdeMO Association to promote interoperable charging infrastructure in India. The specifications for building this infrastructure will be based on IS/IEC standards. Specifically, BCA intends to implement IS17017-25 (adapted from IEC 61851-25) EVSE standard as well as IS17017-2-6 (IEC 62196-6) vehicle inlet and connector standard published by Bureau of Indian Standard. By adopting these global IEC standards, BCA ensures that vehicles remain compatible with both domestic and international markets.

Tomomi Hakomori, Public Affairs Director at CHAdeMO Association, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that they are pleased to work with BCA to improve charging infrastructure in India and look forward to the future of e-mobility in the country.
